Lectures

Lectures that deal with an introduction to the culture, background and history of Ethiopian Jewry.

Personal Stories

Personal life stories and stories of their Aliya (immigration) to Israel. The storytellers are immigrants who experienced life in Ethiopia, felt the hardship of the journey, walked by foot and experienced the suffering of the journey until they reached the land of Israel.

Pottery Making

Pottery workshop involving the preparation of an assortment of housewares from clay. The activity is accompanied by an explanation of its link to the history of the Jews of Ethiopia through this craft

Community Event or “Happening”

Experiential activities for parents and children in the spirit of Ethiopian Jewish culture, primarily during holidays and vacations.

Activity through Idioms

Workshop to introduce the spiritual culture of Ethiopian Jews though idioms.

Amharic Writing

Art and drawing workshop. The participants learn to write their names in Amharic and prepare a door sign with their name in Amharic and another language.

Activities surrounding the holidays

Experiential activities surrounding the Jewish holidays and the holidays unique to the Jews of Ethiopia including a comparison to the holidays celebrated in Israel today and their differences.

The Holiday of Sigd

Lecture and discussion on the origins and meaning of Sigd Day, personal account of Sigd Day in Ethiopia, enrichment activities on the customs of the holiday and how it is celebrated today and in the past.

Introduction to the Ethiopian kitchen

Workshop introducing traditional Ethiopian cuisine and it unusual ingredients, preparing dishes including Dabo and Injera, and tasting the food prepared during the workshop.

Traditional “Eskista” dancing

The word eskista means “shoulder dance”. The dance is danced with songs and body movements involving the chest and shoulders, carried out with sounds and fitting background music. The dance is stirring with its own unique energy.

Selfie Wall

At the end of every activity, there is an option to be photographed in traditional Ethiopian garments with a backdrop of a rural view of Ethiopia reflecting a visit to the village.

Traditional and Cultural Exhibit

With every activity, it is possible to integrate and order an exhibit of a variety of tools and traditional garments.
